The Delta state polytechnic, Ozoro have been upgraded to a university in conjunction with two other polytechnics in Delta State.

The Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro which was established by Law enacted by the Delta State Government on November 12, 2002 during the administration of the then Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Chief James Onanefe Ibori has now been upgraded into a university. The Polytechnic is one of the four (4) tertiary institutions established at the same time by the State Government in its desire to meet the yearnings of Deltans for the acquisition of qualitative education that was not fully provided for by institutions owned by the Federal and State Government.

This upgrade was made in conjunction with two other polytechnics which are; College of Education Agbor, now University of Delta, Agbor; Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro now University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, and Delta State University, Anwai Campus, now Dennis Osadebay University, Anwai.

In view of this when the Institution resumes into a new session, she is no more resuming as a polytechnic but a university and the University of Science and Technology, Ozoro.

The upgrade and approval has also made Delta the state with the highest number of universities in the country, given that with the three newly approved universities, the state now owns four universities.
